The Science Of Sleep

How To Make The Weirdest, Most Beautiful, Vivid, Love Story Ever:
Start off by putting (my other future husband) Gael Garcia Bernal in it. He is AMAZING as a kinda creepy, kinda weird, kinda cute disaster calendar developer who moves to France to stay with his mother after his father passes away. Also, he has sleeping problems where he can't distinguish whether he is dreaming or not. Also, he is sort of schizophrenic...and I would STILL date him. Then add cool crazy dream scenarios that resemble stuff happening in the main character's real life. Then make it funny and touching and unique. And POOF. You have an A+ film....trademark that shit.

Why You Might Think It's Too Weird And Not See It:
1. It's a movie about dreams, which people are either turned on to, or immediately run the other way.
2. Some of the dialogue is in English...most is in French...some is in Spanish.
3. It's unlike anything you've ever seen.
4. It's written AND directed by Michel Gondry.
5. Honestly, I think these are reasons why you should see it so stop being a stick in the mud and go rent it (or buy it).

Best Lines:
1. "Would you marry me when we are seventy? You have nothing to lose."
2. "This girl is at once all the women that broke my heart. She is so beautiful and generous and she is asking me to leave because she is dumping me. She is dumping me because I am a cheap drug dealer. And I am a drug dealer because she wants to leave me."
3. "Distraction is an obstruction to the construction."
4. "Things will turn out the way you want, if you could just stop doubting that I love you. Call me home."
5. "Fuck, an artist, he'll never last..."

Cellophane...
To distinguish (as an audience) between what are dreams and what is reality, the director brilliantly uses things like felt, cardboard, and cellophane (among others) to be objects in the dream world. I don't really know what else to say about it except you'll understand once you see it...

Best Scenes:
1. The beginning.
2. The part about P.S.R.
3. Where they sing in cat suits.
4. Anything with Guy (see below).
5. The whole part about collecting beautiful objects.
6. The whole scene in the little cardboard car...and when he builds the city out of cardboard.
7. The spin-art parts.
8. The part with the 1 second time machine.
9. The ending<3

As I Was Saying:
Alain Chabat who plays Guy is so funny throughout the whole movie. So is Sacha Bourdo who plays Serge...they work with Stephane (Bernal) and they basically help him on his journey to get Stephanie (One of my favorite actresses Charlotte Gainsbourg) to be in love with him. I can't really tell you anything else except that you should really just stop reading this and see it for yourself. It's wonderful.

10/10 Stars<3
Bye For Now.
